It was another busy day with Julie & Jack and Astrid & Matt. Of course we don't get moving too quickly in the morning, but after a lunch of homemade pizza (thanks again J & A) we headed down to the Fruit Valley area of Vancouver for a walk in the trees & to feed the ducks. The leaves were gorgeous, and the ducks were pleased with their treats. Avery slid in the mud just as we were leaving, but didn't seem to mind!
Then it was nap time -- well, actually past nap time. It's hard to keep 3 kids of very different ages happy & rested, but we're doing our best. Once Matt & Jack were down, and Devon was settled in with Avery & Jordan, the mommies went shopping at Target, a treat for both Astrid & Julie, as neither have Targets at home in Calgary & Fairbanks.
Then we hurried home and out the door again to catch the end of the public swim at the Firstenburg Center. Avery would NOT go down the big slide with me, but went twice with Julie! Hmmmmmm. Perhaps because, like Devon, Julie can get to the bottom without dunking Avery, and for some reason I cannot. Astrid enjoyed her run down the slide (without Matthew, who we all agreed was probably a bit too small for such excitement), and Julie had a few runs with Avery & Jack (who couldn't have cared less about it, it seemed).
Then it was home to another delicious meal made by Julie and Astrid. Last night they cooked salmon (that Jeff & Julie caught in Alaska) & risotto, tonight was a delicious vegetable lasagne. They had the forsight to make it yesterday, so Devon was in charge of warming it up while we were swimming, and it was ready as we walked through the door. Perfect!
Unfortunately, the too much fun part came around 7:00pm when crabby Avery finally lost it. She bonked Jack in the head, and when I scolded her she took off running until she bit it in the kitchen, and came up bloody. Her lip is a little swollen, but the bleeding stopped quickly & easily, all her teeth still seem solid, and her nose seems to have survived unscathed. It's been tough without a nap on these busy days, but the nap she had on Thursday led to a very late night later. So, it's a bit of a trade off for now.
Luckily Jack wasn't visibly wounded, and even gave Avery a kiss when she came to apologize, but all the kiddos were in bed by 8:00pm, a record for Avery.
I think tomorrow we'll have a lazy day at home, and if it's not raining, play outside in the leaves or on the swingset. If it is raining, there's always the new playroom!
