A Vacation Inside A Vacation

Well, we did it. Devon & I left the girls here in Indio with grandpa Earl & grandma Linda for 25 hours! We drove into Long Beach and spent the evening aboard the Queen Mary for the Environ Holiday Party.

It was a little nerve-wracking, but we knew they were in good hands, so we just went ahead & enjoyed ourselves. We got all dressed up, ate a lovely meal, visited with friends, and played blackjack at the party casino for a couple of hours. Too bad it wasn’t real money – we both ended up ahead by a few hundred dollars. The view from the ship in the harbor was spectacular, and it really was a wonderful night.

We even slept in this morning! The curtains in the hotel were dark, and it was after 9:00 before we knew it. It was glorious. We headed down to our favorite Long Beach eatery (La Creperie) for a delicious brunch, then did a little shopping without having to lug out strollers & buckle up car seats. It was like we were adults. It was very nice, but seemed very strange.

We were particularly worried about leaving Jordan for the night, considering that she’s been suffering from a cold and doing a fair amount of barfing. But she has been getting better each day, so we did it, and hoped for the best. Boy were we surprised this morning to hear that it was Avery with the barfing problem. She developed a brutal cough last night, and by the time she went to bed she was barking like a seal (croup). The extreme coughing eventually led to her own barf festival, much to grandma & grandpa’s chagrin. Luckily, the coughing seems easily controlled with cough medicine, and Jordan had a wonderful, vomit-less night.

However, they weren’t so lucky with Jordan’s other end – the formula-poop started in full force, 4 times today before we got home.
